We need you!

Help us help you!
Every convention is backed by a dedicated team of Volunteers and without them, the convention could not function properly. We don’t ask much from our Volunteers we just ask that you come willing to work. Don’t worry, you’ll still have plenty of time to check out the panels, and see friends!

Volunteer applications will close November 5th, 2022, at 11:59 pm. Approval notification emails will be sent by
November 19th, 2022.

Badges and Hours
Volunteers are expected to complete 12 volunteer hours during the convention (more in select departments). Arrive on
time and stay for your complete shift.

You will need to have a badge purchased to volunteer at the event. You will be reimbursed for your badge after your
work hours are signed off on by Volunteer Director. Volunteer badges, like all Yama-Con badges, are non-transferrable.
If a volunteer gives their issued badge to another person, that volunteer is subject to expulsion and permanent ban from
volunteering at future Yama-Con events.

Age Restrictions
No experience is required! You must be 18 years old by December 9th 2022. Signups for 16 + require parental
permission.

Check in
Please check in with either the Volunteer Director, Denise Masten, or the Programming Director, Elle Carr, when you
arrive at the convention. The volunteer booth is located in Information Booth (next to Registration). You can also pick up
your volunteer t-shirt here.

Privacy
Volunteer meetings, volunteer events, and communications between Directors and general volunteers may contain
information from Yama-Con which may be confidential and privileged. Please refrain from any disclosure, copying,
distribution or use of this information and note that such actions are prohibited until an official statement is released by
the convention. This includes guest announcements, events, and convention policies/practices.

Expectations
Volunteers are required to abide by the same rules as attendees, and should be well-read on all Yama-Con official
policies.
Volunteers are restricted from any activity that will distract them from assigned duties. This includes, but is not limited
to, working for a vendor or artist, focusing on a personal mobile device when they’re supposed to be focused on attendees, participating in a contest while staffing said contest, etc. After their scheduled hours, volunteers are welcome
to enjoy the convention, but Yama-Con duties take precedence over other activities while the volunteer is on shift.

Alcohol and illegal substances are not allowed to be carried or consumed by volunteers while on shift.

The convention center is a nonsmoking facility. Please only smoke or vape in designated locations.

As a representative of Yama-Con, volunteers are asked to abide by certain etiquette standards before, during, and after the convention. Yama-Con encourages good customer service skills and “service with a smile”. Volunteers are to conduct themselves in a professional manner regarding the convention. This includes at the event itself and also online on social media, etc. Thoughtfully consider your posts and comments if you have Yama-Con listed on your resume or online profile, as your performance reflects on the event.

Dress
It is preferred that you wear your Yama-Con t-shirt during your shift but not required. Volunteers in most departments
are welcome to cosplay, so long as the costume does not interfere with the person’s ability to perform his/her function
or interfere with attendees’ movements in the hallways. Please check with your Volunteer Director if you are unsure if a
cosplay or costume piece is conducive to completing your volunteer duties.

Misconduct
Should a volunteer fail to abide by the rules outlined in this document, or behave untoward while representing the
convention (whether it be at the event, on a public forum, or otherwise), a warning, reassignment, or expulsion may be enacted. The severity of the offense will dictate the severity of the discipline.

Badges may be revoked at any time for bad behavior or other similar reasons, at Yama Con’s discretion.

The Convention Chair, Volunteer Director, and/ or other staffing Directors will be the deciding factor in any arbitration or disciplinary action.
